MWSD-273 Officer In Charge
Major Justin D. Atkins

Justin Atkins is a native of South Carolina and graduated Parris Island in August of 2007. After spending four years as an Ammunition Technician in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, Corporal Atkins graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in January of 2011.

Second Lieutenant Atkins graduated from Marine Corps Engineer School in September of 2012 as a Combat Engineer Officer and was immediately assigned to 8th Engineer Support Battalion. After six months with 8th Engineer Support Battalion, First Lieutenant Atkins PCA’d to Combat Logistics Battalion 24 to serve as the Engineer Platoon Commander for the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. First Lieutenant Atkins deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit from December of 2014 through July 2015 and spent most of his time in the Fifth Fleet.

In August of 2016, Captain Atkins was assigned to Marine Corps Installations Pacific where he served as Deputy Operations Officer, Operations Officer, and Assistant Facilities Officer under Public Works in Okinawa Japan. Captain Atkins graduated non-resident Expeditionary Warfare School in 2017.

In July of 2018, Captain Atkins was assigned as the Support Company Commander for Marine Wing Support Detachment 273 and was immediately sent to Weapons and Tactics Instructors Course as an Aviation Ground Support student. In July of 2019, Captain Atkins became the Operations Officer for the same unit. In December of 2019, Captain Atkins deployed with Marine Wing Support Detachment 273 as the Detachment Operations Officer. In June of 2020, Captain Atkins was appointed as Marine Wing Support Detachment 273’s Officer in Charge
