Lieutenant Colonel Tim Miller is a native of New York. After graduating from Loyola University in Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant from the Officer Candidates Course in June of 2001. He graduated The Basic School with Company F-02 and served as a mentor and Assistant Platoon Commander to Midshipmen in the Leatherneck Program over the summer of 2002.
Following Leatherneck, he completed flight school training in Pensacola, FL and Meridian, MS, earning his wings in April of 2005. After completion of initial flight training, First Lieutenant Miller joined Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101 in Miramar, CA for initial F/A-18 training.
In the summer of 2006, Captain Miller was assigned to Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 121 where his billets included the embarkation officer, flight officer, and the squadron readiness officer. During this tour, Captain Miller deployed to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program and to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During this tour, he attended the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and was designated an Air Combat Tactics and Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor.
In the fall of 2009, Captain Miller was assigned to 75 Squadron as the USMC F/A-18 exchange pilot with the Royal Australian Air Force aboard RAAF Base Tindal in the Northern Territory of Australia. During this tour, he served as the B Flight Commander and squadron Fighter Combat Instructor, conducting multiple detachments across Australia, Malaysia, and to Nellis Air Force Base for Red Flag 12-3.
In the summer of 2012, Major Miller was assigned to Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533 where he served as Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer, the Pilot Training Officer, and the Aircraft Maintenance Officer and deployed twice to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program. During this tour, he attended the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course.
From 2015 through 2018, Major Miller served as an F/A-18 instructor at Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) in Yuma, AZ. While at MAWTS-1, he served as the Aviation Development, Tactics, and Evaluation Department’s Anti Air Warfare Specialist and the Assistant Operations Officer. In 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Miller transitioned out of the F/A-18 Division and assumed duties as the MAWTS-1 Operations Officer.
In the summer of 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Miller was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 31 (MAG-31) in Beaufort, SC where he assumed the role of MAG-31 Operations Officer until June of 2020.
Lieutenant Colonel Miller’s awards include the Air medal (Strike Flight, Sixth Award), Meritorious Service Medal, RAAF Silver Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (Fourth Award).
