VMFA-115 Executive Officer
Major Jesse A. Simmermon

Major Simmermon was is a native of Pensylvania. He graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 then commissioned in June 2009. After commissioning, Simmermon attended The Basic School in Quantico, VA. He left Quantico to begin Aviation Preflight Indoctrination in Pensacola, FL in January 2010. 

In October 2010, he began primary flight training in Milton, FL with VT-3. First Lieutenant Simmermon began advanced flight training in Meridian, MS in July 2011 with VT-9. He received his pilot wings on 20 June 2012. First Lieutenant Simmermon selected F/A-18s after receiving his wings and reported to the Fleet Replacement Squadron, VMFAT-101, in July 2012. Prior to initiating training with VMFAT-101, Simmermon attended the Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape school aboard Naval Air Station North Island.

In June 2014, Simmermon completed the CAT-I pilot syllabus in Miramar, CA then joined Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 242 at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. He deployed with the squadron on detachments in the following foreign countries: South Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, and Japan. Simmermon earned a number of designations while training with Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One as a student in WTI course 2-17. After completing the course in May 2017, Simmermon served as the Pilot Training Officer for the Bats. 

After flying with the Bats for four years, Simmermon executed orders to join 2d Marine Raider Battalion (2MRB), in order to serve as India Company’s Air Officer. Enroute to joining 2MRB, Simmermon attended Terminal Attack Control Party course 4-18 at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, VA.
 
While serving with 2MRB from June 2018 to May 2020, Simmermon completed a deployment to Iraq as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. On deployment, Simmermon served as the Special Operations Task Force-North Air Officer. He also joined Operational Detachment Alpha 5225 to serve as their team’s joint terminal attack controller in support of partnered operations. Upon his return, Simmermon ended his tour with 2MRB as the India Company Executive Officer.

Major Simmermon completed a CAT III refresh with VMFAT-101 in August 2020 then joined VMFA-115 in September, where he is currently serving as the executive officer.
