MAG-31 Command Senior Enlisted Leader
Sergeant Major George L. Vega

Sergeant Major Vega enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 1997, and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC. Following recruit training he attended Marine Combat Training in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Upon completion of MCT he attended the Motor Vehicle Operator's Course in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he was assigned his MOS of 3531 Motor Vehicle Operator.

In April 1998, SgtMaj Vega was assigned to Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group (FSSG), Camp Foster Okinawa, Japan. In December of 1998, he was promoted to Lance Corporal.

In April 1999 SgtMaj Vega attended Marine Security Guard (MSG) School and graduated with class 4-99. In July 1999, he reported to his first assignment, MSG Detachment Asuncion, Paraguay and was promoted to Corporal in August 1999. In September 2000, he was

transferred to his second assignment MSG Detachment Athens, Greece where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in June 2001. In December 2001, SgtMaj Vega was transferred to 1st Marine Division, Headquarters Battalion for duty with Truck Company as a Section Leader. During that time, he deployed with Headquarters Battalion, Truck Company on two combat deployments to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF.1, OIF 2.1).

In January 2005, SgtMaj Vega attended Drill Instructor School in San Diego, California and graduated with class 2-05. Following graduation he reported to 1st Recruit Training Battalion for duty as Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor with Company C. In December 2005, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.

In April 2008, SgtMaj Vega reported to 1st Marine Logistics Group, Combat Logistics Regiment-1 for duty as Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant for Transportation Support Company, Combat Logistics Battalion-5 (CLB-5). During this period, he deployed twice with CLB-5 to Iraq (OIF 9.1) and Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF 10.2). In September 2010, he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.

In November 2010, SgtMaj Vega reported to the Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Marine Corps Base Hawaii where he assumed the duties of Corporals Leadership Course SNCOIC and Deputy Director.

In December 2013, SgtMaj Vega was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and was transferred to Headquarters Regiment, 2d MLG Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Food Service Company and Communications Company.

In December 2015, SgtMaj Vega was transferred to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Company G and H&S Company deploying to BSRF 16.2 and UPD-E. 18.1.

In November 2018, SgtMaj Vega was promoted to his current rank and was assigned to MCRD, San Diego where he served as the 3d Recruit Training Battalion Sergeant Major.

In October 2020, SgtMaj Vega reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29 where he served as the Squadron Sergeant Major. In June 2022, SgtMaj Vega received orders to Marine Aircraft Group 31, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing where he is currently serving as the Group Sergeant Major.

SgtMaj Vega's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal w/ two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/ one gold stars in lieu of second award , Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ two gold stars and Combat Distinguishing Device.

Marine Aircraft Group 31
