Lieutenant Colonel Charles A. Jindrich graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May 2000 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering. Upon graduation, he received his commission as a 2ndLt in the Marine Corps.
Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich completed The Basic School in March 2001 and entered the aviation training pipeline in Pensacola, FL for Primary Flight Training in the T-34. He reported to NAS Meridian, Mississippi for Intermediate Jet Training in the T-2C Buckeye and Advanced Jet Training in the T-45C Goshawk. LtCol Jindrich was designated a Naval Aviator in October 2004 and reported to VFA-106 at NAS Oceana, Virginia for training and designation as an F/A-18 pilot.
In June 2005 Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich reported to MAG-31 at MCAS Beaufort, SC and was assigned to the Silver Eagles of VMFA-115. While serving with the Silver Eagles, Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich held billets as the Embark Officer, S-6 Officer, Flight Officer, Quality Assurance Officer, and S-4 Officer. He deployed with the squadron to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan from July 06 through Jan 07 as part of the Unit Deployment Program. Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich finished his tour with the Silver Eagles by deploying with the squadron to Al Asad, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from March-October 08.
Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich reported to 2d Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, NC in January 2009 for assignment as the Air Officer, 3d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. After designation as a Forward Air Controller in March 09, Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich trained with the battalion in preparation for a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 3/6 served in Afghanistan as part of the surge of ground troops from Jan-Aug 10, and opened Operation MOSHTARAK with Regimental Combat Team 7.
In September 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich returned to MAG-31 and served as the Future Operations Officer. In January 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich joined the Checkerboards of VMFA-312 and held billets as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer. The Checkerboards completed a nine month deployment to the CENTCOM AOR as a part of Carrier Airwing THREE assigned to the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN from July 2013 – March 2014. VMFA-312 was also the recipient of the 2014 Robert M. Hansen Award as the Marine Fighter/Attack Squadron of the Year.
In November 2014, LtCol Jindrich graduated from the Air Officer Course at MAWTS-1 and subsequently reported to 4th Marine Regiment, Camp Schwab, Okinawa for service as the Regimental Air Officer. While assigned to the Shanghai Regiment, LtCol Jindrich participated in or planned for 52 Theater Security Cooperation events and exercises across the entirety of the PACOM AOR, as well as numerous smaller scale regimental, battalion, and Tactical Air Control Party events.
In August 2017, LtCol Jindrich assumed duties as Commander, Marine Aviation Training Support Detachment Oceana while concurrently completing his refresh syllabus in the F/A-18 with VFA-106. LtCol Jindrich subsequently transferred to MAG-31 in July 2018 to await follow on assignment as the Commanding Officer, VMFA(AW)-533.
Lieutenant Colonel Jindrich’s personal awards include the Bronze Star, the Air Medal (5 Strike/Flight awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/ 2 Gold Stars), the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
