Major Michael E. Clark VMFA-251 Executive Officer

Major Clark graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in history and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. After completing The Basic School and flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, First Lieutenant Clark was designated a Naval Flight Officer in December 2004. He was then assigned to VMFAT-101 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, for F/A-18 Weapons Systems Officer training.

In November 2005 First Lieutenant Clark reported for duty with VMFA(AW)-224 at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina. During his time with the Bengals, Captain Clark served as the Ground Safety Officer and NATOPS Officer, and he deployed to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program in 2007. In December 2007, Captain Clark reported for duty with VMFA(AW)-533 and acted as Schedules Officer, Embarkation Officer, and Logistics Officer. He deployed with the Hawks to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program in 2008.

In March 2009 Captain Clark reported for duty with Third Battalion, First Marines at Camp Pendleton, California. During his time with the Thundering Third, Captain Clark served as the Air Officer and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010.

In December 2010 Captain Clark reported to VMFA(AW)-121 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California.  During his time with the Green Knights, Captain Clark served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Intelligence Officer, and he deployed to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program in 2012. In August 2012 Captain Clark reported to MAG-11 and served as the Personnel Support Detachment Executive Officer.

After being selected to the Foreign Area Officer program, Captain Clark reported to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California in May 2013 where he received a Master of Arts degree in Security Studies (Sub-Saharan Africa) with distinction. Major Clark then reported to the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center also in Monterey in September 2014 where he earned an Associate of Arts degree in French with highest honors. 

To complete the final portion of his Foreign Area Officer training, Major Clark reported to US Embassy, Dakar in August 2015. During his time there, Major Clark supported the embassy’s Office of Security Cooperation and Defense Attaché Office, and he travelled to seventeen African and two European countries as part of his training. 

In November 2016, Major Clark reported to VMFA(AW)-224. During his second tour with the Bengals, Major Clark served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Executive Officer. He deployed with the squadron in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

In July 2018, Major Clark reported to VMFA-251 where he currently serves as the Thunderbolts’ Executive Officer.
