Lieutenant Colonel Adam Levine VMFAT-501 Commanding Officer

Lieutenant Colonel Adam Levine was commissioned in May 1998 via the Platoon Leaders Class program. He completed primary flight training with VT-6, NAS Whiting Field, intermediate and advanced flight training with VT-9 and VT-7, at NAS Meridian. Designated a Naval Aviator in April 2001, he subsequently completed F/A-18 replacement aircrew training at VFA-125, NAS Lemoore.

First Lieutenant Levine reported to the “Black Knights” of VMFA-314, MCAS Miramar in July 2002. His billets included NATOPS Officer, Schedules Officer, Flight Officer, Landing Signals Officer, and the coveted Coffee Mess Officer. He deployed with Carrier Air Wing Nine aboard the USS Carl Vinson.

In November 2004, Captain Levine was assigned as a Forward Air Controller with 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, MCB Pendleton and deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Rejoining the Black Knights in September 2005, he completed two Unit Deployment Programs to MCAS Iwakuni Japan. During this tour his billets included Assistant Maintenance Officer, Quality Assurance Officer, Pilot Training Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Logistics Officer.

In February 2008, Captain Levine transferred to the “Sharpshooters” of VMFAT-101 for duty as an F/A-18 Instructor Pilot. His billets included Intelligence Officer, Instructor Under Training Officer, Air to Air Phase Head, Training Officer, and Assistant Maintenance Officer.

Major Levine reported to the “Warlords” of VMFAT-501, Eglin AFB in July 2011. Following transition to the F-35B he served as an Instructor Pilot and held billets including Assistant Weapons Officer, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer.

In January 2015, Major Levine was assigned to VMX-22, Det Edwards AFB for service as an F-35B Operational Test Pilot, Assistant Detachment OIC, and Maintenance Officer.

LtCol Levine is a graduate of the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course, Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor course, Tactical Air Control Party school, and Air Officers course.

His civilian education includes a BA in Middle East Studies from The George Washington University and a MBA from The University of Southern California.

LtCol Levine has over 2,600 flight hours in the F/A-18 and F-35B. His personal military decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals (one with a Combat V), two Navy Achievement Medals, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
