Major Patrick W. Junick MWSD-31 Officer In Charge

Major Junick enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in 2000 while a student at Texas A&M University.  Upon completion of Marine Corps Recruit Training he was assigned as a Rifleman and ordered to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion 23d Marines, in Houston TX where he served as a Reservist while attending Texas A&M University.   

Second Lieutenant Junick was commissioned in 2004 after graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Agricultural Development.  After The Basic School 2nd Lt Junick was assigned as a Combat Engineer Officer and attended the USMC Engineer Officer’s Course at Courthouse Bay, Camp Lejeune.  Upon completion of his MOS training 2nd Lt Junick was assigned to First Combat Engineer Battalion where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer, Platoon Commander, Engineer Support Company Executive Officer, and Engineer Support Company Commander.  During this time 2nd Lt Junick deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2008 1st Lt Junick was assigned to Kilo Company, Third Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.  Later that year Captain Junick was assigned as the Executive Officer for Recruit Processing Company.  In early 2009 Captain Junick was made the executive Officer of Special Training Company.  He then took over the company through June of 2010.  In June 2010, Captain Junick was assigned to Headquarters and Services Battalion MCRD Parris Island as the Logistics Officer as well as the Supply Officer.  In 2011 Captain Junick received orders from MCRD Parris Island to Fort Leonard Wood, MO to attend the Army Engineer Captain’s Career Course.  Upon completion of the career course Captain Junick received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 in Iwakuni, Japan. Captain Junick was assigned to Engineer Company as the Executive Officer and within three months he assumed command of that company.  Simultaneous with his assumption of command, Captain Junick was sent to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma for Weapons and Tactics Instructor course.  While in command of Engineer Company, Captain Junick was sent to the island of Tinian, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands as part of training exercises GEIGER FURY and FORGER FURY II.  His role was to oversee the clearing of historic North Field.  This historic airfield is where both atomic bomb missions during WWII originated from.  In 2014 Captain Junick received orders to Joint Task Force North (JTF-N), US Northern Command, Fort Bliss TX.  

Upon his arrival at JTF-N Captain Junick was promoted to Major and assigned as one of the Officers in the Plans and Policy Division, J-5.  While assigned to the J-5 Major Junick was also designated as a Liaison Officer from JTF-N to Joint Task Force West, a Department of Homeland Security task force tasked with protecting the US Southwestern border and approaches.

In 2017 Major Junick received orders to Marine Wing Support Detachment 31 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina.  He serves as the Officer in Charge of the detachment.

Major Junick’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, and the Marine Corps Drill Instructor Ribbon.
