Master Sergeant Charley B. New MWSD-31 Sr Enlisted Advisor

Master Sergeant New enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1992.  He was directed to MCRD San Diego, California where he completed Recruit Training.  Following Recruit Training, Private New attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at the School of Infantry West Camp Pendleton, California.  Upon Completion of MCT, Private New attended the School of Infantry, Rifleman Course and received the MOS of (0311) Infantryman.

In May 1993 Private New reported to India Company 3rd Battalion 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  During this period he deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit to Somalia, in support of Operation Continued Hope, Operation Provide Promise/ Deny flight in the Adriatic Sea, Operation Support Democracy Haiti, Joint Task Force 160 Operation Sea Signal/ Safe passage, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. 

In February 1997 Sergeant New was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for on the job training to become a Refrigeration Mechanic.  At the end of 1997 Sergeant New received orders to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland upon graduating from this course he received the MOS of (1161) Refrigeration Mechanic and was transferred to 8th Engineer Support Battalion and later 8th Communications Battalion where he held the billet of Platoon Sergeant.

In November 1999 Sergeant New volunteered for Recruiting Duty and attended the Basic Recruiter’s Course, upon graduation was assigned to 9th Marine Corps district, RS Milwaukee, RSS Green Bay, Wisconsin.  After successfully completing his tour in 2003, Staff Sergeant New received orders to 1st Maintenance Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, California where he immediately deployed for Operation Iraqi freedom, and continued to serve multiple tours. During this time Gunnery Sergeant New attended the Utilities Chief Course at Courthouse Bay and received the MOS (1169), Utilities Chief.

In May 2007 Gunnery Sergeant New was assigned to Marine Corps Security Forces Company, Kings Bay, Georgia.  During his time there Gunnery Sergeant New held billets of Close Quarters Battle Platoon Sergeant, Battalion Guard Chief, and Senior Enlisted Advisor.  Upon completion of his tour he was assigned to Combat Logistics Company 23 in Beaufort, South Carolina where he served as the Utilities Chief.  In July 2010 Gunnery Sergeant New was augmented to Combat Logistics Battalion 8, Support Company, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for Operation Enduring freedom, Helmand province Afghanistan.  Upon completion of the deployment Gunnery Sergeant New returned to CLC-23 and became the Senior Enlisted Advisor.

In 2013 Master Sergeant New was transferred to Marine Air Control Squadron 1, Headquarters Company Yuma, Arizona where he served as the Squadron Utilities Chief and Headquarters Company Senior Enlisted Advisor.  Master Sergeant New deployed in March of 2015 as Marine Air Control Group 38 SNCOIC, SPMAGTF-CR-CC in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, Kuwait.

In June 2016 Master Sergeant New reported to MWSS-273 where he served as Utilities Chief and Headquarters Company Senior Enlisted Advisor.  In January of 2017 he assumed his current billet as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the newly designated MWSD-31.  Master Sergeant New’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one Gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
